VOLUSIA DEPUTIES BEEF UP HOLIDAY TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office’s traffic unit is beefing up seat belt and DUI enforcement just in time for the holidays, and beyond. Launched earlier this month, a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign is now in full swing.

The campaign continues through Dec. 31, with deputies taking a zero tolerance approach to violators. And the reason is simple: seat belts save lives, but only if they’re used. Two additional Click It or Ticket campaigns have been scheduled for next year, between March 18-31, 2012 and May 5-June 3, 2012.

“This is a high priority for our deputies,” said Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson. “Seat belts are an absolute life-saver, and anything that we can do through enforcement to heighten awareness and increase their use will improve safety for the motoring public.”

Deputies, meanwhile, will also be stepping up efforts to target impaired drivers. Again, highway safety and the reduction of traffic crashes, deaths and injuries is the goal. The Sheriff’s Office’s traffic unit will be conducting several DUI enforcement initiatives during the holidays and through the New Year. The initiatives are scheduled for the holiday periods as well as various weekends, at locations throughout the county.
