It’s a good idea to keep your cool when visiting the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, even if you’re only waiting in the parking lot.
According to the Volusia Sheriff's Office, a 30-year-old Daytona Beach woman could have used this advice before she was arrested Wednesday morning on prescription pill-related charges. Her odd behavior, including pulling her shirt up to expose herself, definitely attracted the attention of the deputies and investigators working at the Sheriff’s Office’s Operations Center near Daytona Beach.
Stephanie Randall was at the Operations Center with a friend who had business there. The friend went inside the building with Randall’s 2-year-old son at about 10:25 a.m. and Randall stayed in her car’s passenger seat. Deputies then noticed that Randall was acting very odd.
They watched as she swung her head around in circles as if listening to heavy metal music, but there was no music playing. Then she lifted up her shirt. Finally, she picked at her skin and wiped her face as if she was trying to peel it off. Deputies also noticed that Randall’s friend in the lobby seemed to be falling asleep while completing paperwork. Concerned for the well being of the child in the presence of the two strange-acting adults, deputies approached Randall to see what was going on.
When deputies got to the car, they could see that Randall’s chest was partially exposed along with a plastic bag tucked into her bra. Deputies asked what was in the bag, and she claimed that she didn’t have a bag in her shirt. Then she removed the bag and attempted to hide it in her seat.
However, deputies could see that the bag contained pills. Randall said that she had a prescription for the drugs, but wasn’t able to tell the deputies what the pills were or show them any prescription paperwork. The four pills turned out to be methadone. Randall was arrested and a further search turned up two adderall pills that she said she was holding for a friend and a pill grinder.
